It is found in wet, low-lying ground. The leaves when fully grown can attain diameters of up to three feet. The product has been taken widely in Germany since 1972. Butterbur petasin comes from the Asteraceae family, and is a fleshy, creeping plant with a short root and is native to Europe and North Africa. Extracts from the leaves and roots have been used, since ancient Greek times, as an anti-inflammatory, a smooth muscle relaxant (anti-spasmodic) and pain reliever (analgesic). Butterbur petasin's main active ingredients are petasin and isopetasin, with the highest concentrations occurring in the root. Several clinical trials have suggested Butterbur petasin may help to reduce migraine attacks. It has been used successfully in Europe for over 25 years, and is now becoming popular in the UK and USA. Directions: Always read carefully the instructions with the product. Take one capsule three times daily with meals for the first month, then one capsule twice daily thereafter. After taking the product for 4-6 months you may be able to discontinue use. Resume for another 4-6 month cycle if necessary. Do not use if pregnant or breast feeding. People with liver disease should not use this product except with medical advice. Nutritional information: each capsule contains on average - Extract of Petasites hybridus 50mg (Butterbur root) 28-44:1, standardised for at least 7.5mg of Petasin and Isopetasin.
